A Special Speedster: The Super from Switzerland

Elegant, rare, and incredibly well‑preserved, this 1957 Porsche 356A 1600 Super Speedster represents one of the finest examples of Porsche’s iconic minimalist sports car. With fewer than 30,000 km from new, its low‑mileage status places it in a category all its own. Even more unusual, this Speedster was delivered new to Switzerland, a noteworthy exception for a model primarily targeted toward the American market.

Still retaining its original, matching‑numbers 1600 Super engine, this Speedster’s authenticity is reinforced by its exceptional documentation and long‑term enthusiast ownership. Believed to have remained in Switzerland until the 1970s, the car later passed through the hands of passionate and knowledgeable caretakers—among them Joseph Nash, Porsche Club of America participant Jerry Manna, and later Bob McDowell, before returning to our hands and then to the current owner in 2009. At the time of that sale, the Speedster showed just 26,747 km (16,619 miles), a figure confirmed by multiple Porsche experts.

World‑Class Restoration

After changing hands in 2009, the Speedster underwent a comprehensive restoration by Clark & Carter Restorations LTD in Essex, UK—one of the world’s most respected restoration firms, well known for showing cars at elite concours events including Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach.

Because the car no longer wore its original paint, a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration was both appropriate and meticulously executed. The result is an exceptional Speedster restored in its factory‑original color combination, proudly reflecting the red‑and‑white palette of its Swiss origins.

This example retains:

• Original matching‑numbers engine

• Original bodywork and panels, with factory‑stamped final digits appearing throughout

• Correctly date‑coded wheels

• Correct 356A factory tool kit

• Factory radio, beautifully preserved in the dash

The owner opted to remove the bumper guards for a cleaner, more purposeful appearance—easily reversible if desired.

A thick and carefully organized history file accompanies the car, documenting its provenance, restoration, and long-term preservation.

One of the Best Speedsters in Existence

Combining low mileage, documented provenance, original components, and a world‑class restoration, this 1957 Porsche 356A 1600 Super Speedster stands at the top of the market.

Eligible for top-tier events including the Mille Miglia, and Colorado Grand, this Speedster delivers not only historical significance but also exceptional driving pleasure.

A rare opportunity to acquire a benchmark‑quality example of Porsche’s most beloved open sports car.
