The 2017 automobile auction season has begun and Bonhams, Gooding & Co., R.M. Sothebyβs, Barrett-Jackson, and Russo and Steele presented a vast number of Porsches for sale at all venues in the greater Scottsdale, AZ, area.

Lot 73 β 1979 Porsche Typ 930 Turbo 3.3 coupe β Without reserve β Estimate: $130,000-160,000. Sold for $85,000.
Lot 88 β 1964 Porsche Typ 904 GTS (highly original, well preserved) βEstimate: $2,000,000-2,500,000. Bidding started at $ 1,400,000 and surged quickly - within a minute β to $2,000,000. Then it stopped cold and sold for $2,100,000.
Lot 94 β 1987 Porsche Typ 944 S coupe β Without reserve β Estimate: $30,000-40,000. Sold for $24,000.
Lot 98 β 1961 Porsche Typ 356 coupe (Outlaw) β Without reserve β Estimate: $90,000-120,000. Sold for $92,500.

Lot 24 β 1963 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight Competition Roadster β Estimate: $7,500,000-9,000,000. Sold for $6,7000,000.
Lot 28 β 1967 Volkswagen Type 2 Westphalia Camper β Without reserve β Estimate: $75,000-100,000. Sold for $52,500.
Lot 44 β 1952 Ferrari 340 America Spider Competizione β ex-factory team car - Estimate: $7,500,000-9,000,000. Sold for $5,800,000. Β
Lot 45 β 1956 Volkswagen Type 1 βBeetleβ Cabriolet β Without reserve β Estimate: $40,000-60,000. Β Started at $30,000 and soon sold for $32,000 in the room.
Lot 48 β 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB, second-to-last assembled β Without reserve(!) β Estimate $2,500,000-$3,500,000. This was a sellerβs gamble β offering the car without reserve - that brought about a significant value recalculation that cannot have pleased 275 GTB owners or Ferrari collectors in general. Bidding began in the room at $1,300,000 and advanced at a near glacial pace to $1,450,000 and then it slowed further, inching up in $25,000 bids to finally sold for $1,575,000, nearly $1,000,000 off the low estimate.
Lot 64 β 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder (Belgian motorshow car) β No published estimate. Β Bidding began at $6,000,000 and within 60 seconds had reached $8,200,000. From there it advanced at an ever slowing pace, taking several more minutes until it topped out and did not sell at $10,650,000. Β This no-sale made it a not-so-good day for Ferraris at Bonhams in Arizona. Β
Lot 022 β 1925 Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix β Estimate: $2,600,000-3,200,000 - Sold for $3,000,000, setting a world record for this particular specification GP Bugatti.
Lot 034 β 1936 Squire 1 Β½-liter Tourer β One of seven ever made β Estimate: $1,500,000-2,000,000 β Did not sell at $1,050,000.
Lot 046 β 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 β Estimate $3,000,000-3,400,000 β Did not sell at $2,400,000.
Lot 126 β 1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast β Estimate: $2,800,000-3,200,000 β Sold for $2,650,000.
Lot 132 - 1969 American Motors AMX/3 Concept car β Estimate: $900,000-1,300,000 β Sold for $810,000.
