August Editor's Note

By Cam Ingram

This week signals the calm before the storm. The annual excitement at Monterey, Carmel, and Pebble Beach, California, returns, running Monday, the 14th of August through Sunday the 21st. There even are follow-on private events that extend into the week starting the 22nd!

As we have for the past two years, we will cover the Monterey Peninsula automobile auctions and Porsche-themed events carefully and as thoroughly as possible. We end this issue with a look at the Porsche cars (and a tractor) that the five auction houses are offering this year. There are quite a few, including some interesting racing cars and a few very exciting road models.

But before that, two of our regular contributors introduce us to some interesting characters. Sean Cridland takes us to meet Gary Smith in New Mexico, a man with a penchant and talent for taking older Porsches and recycling them into newer versions of themselves. Sean Smith brings us together with Spencer Cox in New York, a racer with great passion and deep skills.

We will follow up the auction frenzy in Monterey in our September issue and accompany all those numbers with a couple more interesting features.
If you are going to Monterey, have fun, travel safely, be patient with the traffic, and remember in an auction, if you stand up and wave to a friend, you may just have bought that lovely Bugatti.

Thanks for reading us.
